The best way to Prevent Carpet Cleaning Ripoffs
UNBELIEVABLY LOW PRICE. Most people are attracted to a low cost for one reason or another. Yet, a number of the bad apples in our industry will bait you with a low cost simply to get in the door. This is misleading and false advertising in my book.
Their ads generally read something like this: Carpet cleaning $4.95 per room or perhaps as high as $9.95 per room.
But, when they get to your house suddenly the cost goes way up. They tack on these “Extra” processes or additional “Pre-treatment” price etc.
They do so because they simply cannot make a profit in the costs they advertised.
Carpet cleaning is as expensive as some unethical carpet cleaners would like you to believe.
Or if you’re use to Room Pricing as opposed to square footage, then the expense of a 10 x 10 room would be between $35.00 and $50.00
BAIT AND SWITCH. You may see some carpet cleaning businesses advertise a “Dual Process” of carpet cleaning. Don’t be fooled by that.
So what is this “Double Process” anyway?
Double procedure carpet cleaning describes the method of heavy or shampooing pre conditioning. Unfortunately, unethical carpet cleaners frequently use double procedure as a bait and switch technique.
Here’s how it’s done: First they “bait” you with a basic cleaning or their (single process) at an unbelievably low price. Next, when they arrive at your home, they attempt to “change” you to the more expensive dual-process cleaning.
In case you select their basic service and do not fall for their switch, you will likely receive poor workmanship using little or no chemicals or cleaning solutions, just water, and they’ll not guarantee their work.
It’s true that water, or water that is HOT, will clean carpeting to some degree. But if you’d like your carpets to be REALLY CLEAN, then you need to possess the soils suspended with a cleaning agent suitable to the job at hand.
Keep in mind this, carpet cleaning should include the following:
Vacuuming
Pre-Treatment
The Cleaning & Extraction with the wand
Dressing
Matters which should be considered Extra’s are as follows:
Deodorizing
Furniture going (Mostly the larger pieces)
UNSUPPORTED CLAIMS: A lot of companies will advertise that they have the best system ever made for cleaning carpeting, or that their method of cleaning is “THE BEST”.
You’ll hear this from nearly every carpet cleaner and read this in almost every advertising. There are many different methods of cleaning carpet, each has it’s advantages and disadvantages.
Which approach is best?
Recall this: The carpeting produces urge “Hot Water Extraction” more commonly referred to as “Steam Cleaning” as the most effective way to clean their carpets.
But consider this; the procedure that’s best for you is the procedure that realizes your goal.
Should you want a method that dries quickly, then a strategy that takes a long time to dry is not for you. So before you choose a carpet cleaner, identify your aims. Then select the approach that best achieves those goals.
OUTDATED BELIEFS There was a time when people believed that “Hot Water Damages Carpeting”, and close to twenty years ago that might have been true with improperly trained “technicians” set to much heat to the incorrect type of fibers.
We know this is not accurate, today, and it is fibers and more notably the carpeting and the machines have improved to where they require the heat necessary to assist in the cleaning process.
By washing and rinsing your carpet with hot water, your carpet is completely cleaned-in exactly the same way that somebody who showers and then rinses off the dirt and soap will not be a lot dirtier than the man who takes only a sponge bath.
Remember that the manufactures advocate “HOT WATER EXTRACTION” as the best way to clean their carpets.
